What is skin-cycling?
Skin-cycling was a term created by Dr Whitney Bowe a dermatologist I discovered on TikTok that quite literally saved my skin. It's a nighttime routine cycle of four days that consists of chemical exfoliation, retinol, and moisturiser.
If your skin is as sensitive as mine and is prone to break-out from literally anything, why not give the skin-cycling routine a try? Here's the break down.
Skin-cycling method --> a bedtime routine
Night 1 - chemical exfoliation
Night 2 - retinoid
Night 3 & 4 - moisturise
Every Morning - SPF
Here's a quick overview of the products I use. You don't need more than one for each step but it's useful to have options depending on your skin. (All bought from TKMaxx).
Chemical exfoliators:
@esfoliocosmetics 3HA Tea tree clear toner
@bielenda 5% AHA PHA Niacinamide cream
Retinoids:
@thebeautyworx Retinol recovery serum
@ Dr.wellness Retinol serum capsules
Moisturisers:
@spa_cosmetics_dead_sea Hyaluronic acid serum
@egyptianmagic All-purpose skin cream
SPF:
@cosrx Aloe soothing sunscreen
(Honourable SPF mentions: @skin1004official Hyalu-cica sunscreen, @thebodyshop Skin defence sunscreen)
The products I used work well for my sensitive combo skin. Like I said, I don't use more than one product each night but depending on how my skin is feeling, I use a lighter or thicker option. After night 4, you repeat the cycle from night 1.
Below are the products listed. (Source: @monixx.g Instagram)
Hope this was helpful and comment below if you've tried this or any other nighttime skincare routine before.
