Top 3 Fashion Mistakes

For those who want to elevate or upgrade your style this year, or you're starting a new school, here are three mistakes that are usually made when buying new clothes and how to avoid them.
1) Buying what you like
It seems like a juxtaposition saying you shouldn't buy what you like, but what I mean by this is you shouldn't buy anything you see online/in-store just because you like it.
The number 1 mistake I made in the past was buying items of clothing in a store that I really liked, only to come home and realise I had no way of styling them. Some of these were statement pieces like patterned trousers and weird tops, and the reality was that I avoided wearing them. Only to end up saying:
"I have nothing to wear"
When I had a whole wardrobe of clothes to wear, but didn't know how because I'd made the mistake of buying things I liked.
To conclude, you need to buy pieces that you know you can style with the items you already have in your wardrobe. You have to of course like what you buy, but remember these outfits also need to be styled with what you already own. Making what you pick wearable.
2) Playing it safe
When trying to completely change your style, you can revert to sticking to simpler outfit choices out of fear, such as basics like plain tshirts or hoodies.
Sometimes it's okay to buy that one piece that's a little different from your regular style because chances are you might actually like it! This can open doors to an aesthetic you can stick to. But this also means you can try new colours that you wouldn't usually wear and explore different combinations.
So try to get out of your comfort zone to help you explore new looks.
3) Following other people
Just like playing it safe, I think we get so scared to get out of our comfort zone, that we end up copying styles we see online instead of getting inspired. There's a difference.
We can get ideas from others to help us identify what we like/dislike, and find what suits our body-type, because everyone's body can be styled differently. Copying someone's whole style identity can put you up for failure as it's not sustainable and you don't get to find your real style identity.
Therefore, you can get inspired by certain looks but make it your own. Such as colour combinations you like but in the style of clothing you'd actually wear.
Hope this has given you some courage to change your style, and it's okay to make mistakes and change it up once in a while!
