This article is all about the fall essentials you need to perfectly transition from Summer to Autumn (timeless fall fashion that still works in 2024!)
We can all do a Pinterest search but truthfully Pinterest isn't going to tell you exactly what items are essential (no shade to Pinterest, i luv u <3) so I'm here to give you the low-down on ✨Fall Fashion 101✨. (these are work and weather appropriate!)
NOTE: These are essential staple pieces to start your fall wardrobe, for beginners, to help you transition into the colder months and it doesn't include specific brands to make it easier for everyone.
Contents:
Outerwear

Long coat/overcoat - for a classy chic city style, long coats make every outfit expensive. Colour choice depends on your aesthetics/preference.
Puffer jacket - either hooded or without a hood, either colour block or solid black, a puffer jacket is essential for a quick waterproof layer.
Shacket - not so essential but I wanted to add this as a layer for when the autumn weather gets a little warmer, it's a thinner (but not too thin) layer.
Aviator/leather jacket - who said leather jackets were out (definitely not me 👀)? But for me, leather jackets scream fall fashion. Aviators with fur lining can help keep you warm too, even if you opt in for a cropped jacket.
Sweaters/Jumpers
You've probably noticed there's no "tops/t-shirts" category, that's because you can style these outfits with a simple tee or a tank top (depending on the weather) which you'll probably already own. You can just wear a jumper/sweater on its own or layer a t-shirt underneath for warmth.

A basic cream crew-neck jumper - a design and colour that matches all, and always looks effortless.
V-neck sweater vest - perfect layering piece over a turtleneck or a button-down shirt. Can be any colour/pattern, but I prefer beige or dogtooth.
Turtleneck/high-neck sweaters - either a solid colour or patterned, these jumpers are made for the harsher weather. Levels up from a basic turtleneck top.
Colourful jumper - if you don't want to abide to plain colours, a designed/colour block sweater is a must to spice up your wardrobe.
Cardigan - a MUST for your outfits. Either a thin cardigan top or a knitted v-neck cardigan, these are essential for a quick layer.
Crew-neck sweater - to match every aesthetic, a simple crew-neck sweater creates a relaxed yet put-together look. Both a streetwear classic and city-chic.
Bottoms

Dogtooth mini skirt - a wool-type material short skirt is ideal for warmth, paired perfectly with knee-high socks or knee-high boots.
Long denim skirt - longer skirts are needed for colder months, especially a denim long skirt that is a warmer version of the classic short denim skirt. Can be a colour of your choice to fit your aesthetics.
Darker blue straight-leg jeans - A darker colour that suits every item of clothing, and is a muted tone for autumn without looking too macabre.
Grey suit pants - Loose fitted grey suit pants make every outfit look effortlessly chic no matter the top or sweater, keeping you both warm and ventilated.
Leggings - an essential item that most people should already have in their closet, perfect for every weather, but especially autumn. The oversized sweater + tight trousers combo is just chefs kiss. Both sporty and PSL ready. Extra points if they're insulated/thermal ;)
Shoes

Black ankle boots - versatile, cold weather approved footwear starts with boots, and black ankle boots are a MUST!
Knee-high boots - made for the colder months, knee-high boots allow you to wear short skirts/shorts in the autumn whilst still keeping warm and protected. White or black are the go-to colours, and heel style depends on preference.
UGGs - not really an Ugg girly myself, but when the first leaf falls, you know the Uggs are back in business. These Ugg slippers are super cute for a lounged-in look that's acceptable for the outside world.
Dad trainers - chunky white trainers are 100% essential for the wet and windy weathers of autumn. They're rainproof and trekking essential.
Loafers - the autumn version of the ballet flats that will keep your soles dry on wet days and make your outfit look classy, always.
Accessories/Extras

Large scarf - not just a regular thin short scarf, you need a super long large thick band scarf because they're so versatile. They can double up as a head cover up or blanket!
Beanie/bobble hat - if you don't mind messing up your hair a little (personally I think it gives it more volume) then a beanie or a pom-pom hat will keep you warm without ruining your outfit.
Rib-knit long dress - just like the long skirts, knitted long dresses are perfect for the colder months between autumn and winter, and especially cute for work with sneakers.
